Welcome to Country Again

Aboriginal woman Rhoda Roberts, claims she personally invented the term “Welcome to Country” along with the protocols involved, in the 1980's

[Verse]

Under the Southern Cross, where the gum trees stand tall,

A sacred land whispers, it welcomes us all.

With ochre and sweat, a story is told,

A bond to the earth, ancient and bold.

[Chorus]

Welcome to country, feel the spirit flow,

Through rivers and valleys, where ancestors go.

Marked by the land, in the red and the gold,

The warmth of this place, forever we hold.

[Verse 2]

The firelight dances, the smoke gently sways,

Guiding our steps through these timeless ways.

With hands outstretched, we honor and greet,

A moment of truth where our spirits meet.

[Chorus]

Welcome to country, feel the spirit flow,

Through rivers and valleys, where ancestors go.

Marked by the land, in the red and the gold,

The warmth of this place, forever we hold.

[Bridge]

The ochre marks our skin, like the sun on the sand,

Sweat binds our journey to this ancient land.

In the heartbeat of the didge, and the clap of the hand,

We’re all connected in this sacred strand.

[Verse 3]

Through eucalyptus whispers and the curlew’s cry,

The past and the present are bound by the sky.

A welcome so simple, yet it runs so deep,

Awakens the soul, in memories we keep.
